Business Coaching~ 1/24/12

Thank you to all those who were on the Business Coaching Call today!  We appreciate your participation and have seen an increase in revenue with those who have taken the time to focus and attend to these calls.

Today on our call we talked about "planting seeds" and going back to the basics.  Just like farmers planting crops we need to plan and then deliver within a exact period of time reap the rewards.  What can you do now to prepare for the upcoming Spring?
- Call all of your current & past clients one month before the Spring time season and get them on your preferred customer list.  On this call you should be securing a mowing season contract and scheduling them for a yard clean-up.
- Email Campaign to those same clients prior to your phone call reminding them they need to get on your waiting list now as preferred client before you are booked for the season.
- Send a card to those business to business contacts from SendOutCards.com for one of the off holidays: Valentine's Day, St. Patricks Day...
- Pick at least one day a week (more if you are not busy) and go to your networking meetings, office visits and one on one meetings with other business owners that may be able to refer business to you and you can refer business to them.  Who doesn't like to go to breakfast or coffee???  It's a great way to build friendships and business contacts.  Remember, you have at least one thing in common- you are business owners.

These are just a few ideas, can you come up with more?

Kameron talked about going back to basics and covered the following topics:

What is the vision
Who is in charge
Weekly goals
Look at BK as an option
Evaluate all work Cash vs. busy
Break even
Daily KPI
Calendar & Follow Up
Creating Raving Fans
Organization
Delegation
Planning
Delivery
Supply
Easy to Buy
Quality Service

Have a great week everyone!  As a reminder, our next Business Coaching call is Tuesday, February 13th at 1:00pm MST.

Handi Ramp Update

The Handi-Ramp Conference call yesterday went really well.  We are excited to develop this national opportunity!  We are planning on developing some dual marketing and advertising, but in the meantime we encourage you to offer these services to your clients.
Also Jim Shaw from Handi-Ramp has not sent me his PowerPoint from the call, but once I receive it I will send it out to the group.

IF SUCCESS WERE EASY, EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT!

Being in jail is an experience I will never forget. I was 16 years old. My Mom and I had just escaped from communist Czechoslovakia by driving through Hungary to Yugoslavia, and having left our car up in the Alps and climbing into Austria. We had gone through the mountains with little more than a hidden US $100 bill and the clothes on our backs. We had military helicopters circling above our heads for a while. We were scared. I was just a typical teenager with big hair, a big mouth, and tiny self-esteem. I certainly wasn't quite prepared to be escaping a country. It seemed that we are never quite prepared with the big steps we need to take in our lives. My mother almost slipped off a cliff at one point and she could have lost her life if she hadn't managed to regain her balance.
When we finally made it to Austria, we were exhausted, excited, confused, and a whole lot of other things. By a chain of coincidences, we ended up at the police station where we went through the questioning and fingerprinting process. We figured that we would soon be on our way to the refugee camp near Vienna and, soon after that, on our way to Canada or some other blessed free country that would take us. Yoohoo. Freedom found!
Wrong. It was getting late at night and we needed a place to sleep. The police officers called a few hotels and then they said they will take us to The Town Jail for the night. At first, I thought it had been just an interesting hotel name.
It wasn't. At this jail, a scary woman looking like the sidekick from Frankenstein performed a body search and took away our belts and our shoe laces. Then we were taken to the cell, our new "home".
Two bunk beds. A hole in the ground for a bathroom. A three-foot stack of hard core pornography. A water faucet that would only turn on from the outside. A door with no door handle. In short, not a place to invite someone on a romantic date.
The the jail guard left and the big steel door behind us got shut. The next thing I remember is the loud silence and reality started to sink in. "This is freedom? We didn't sign up for this!"
Then things got worse. We got forgotten. We were supposed to only stay for one night but nobody but us seemed to know that. I was starting to understand how zoo animals must feel and I wondered if learning some tricks might increase our chances of being remembered.
When we finally got released, paradise still wasn't found. We stayed in a refugee camp for five months. Anyone employed in a company going through downsizing can relate to the uncertainty of not knowing if there is a job to be had at the end of the next day. In the camp, people didn't even know if they had a country to live in and the stresses were enormous. Even coming to Canada was tough. We didn't know the language or the culture. Things seemed to get tougher and tougher, for a long time, before they got better. If we had an option of going back home, we would have likely done so. However, this inability to turn back and give up made us persevere and find a life we couldn't have had back there.
Have YOU ever gotten yourself into a situation where you believed you would improve your lot in life, only to find a number of things that you didn't "sign up for"? Maybe you started a business or got a job that didn't start out well. Maybe you were married and things got tough. Often, in life, things get uglier before they get better. If you want something, keep going, don't turn back just because things aren't easy in the moment. Based on what I have seen, if success were easy, everyone would be doing it. If you want a result badly enough, you will get it but you must be willing to wait and do what is necessary. Handle the challenges of the moment in creative ways, but never turn back to give up on what you want!

Focusing on the WINS...

We haven't shared WINS for a few weeks, so I thought it would be great to reflect on some good things that are happening nationally:

- Chris Spahr has had a few in-services with senior service providers in his area in the last few weeks.  At the end of December he went to UMC hospital and did an in-service for about 25 people.  He has completed about 2 others since then.  Chris is providing all the Spectrum of services, but his focus is to grow his Senior Services core this year!  We are happy to hear that...
- Phill and Sarah Martin are doing great work in their local community.  They have grown their handyman and cleaning departments steadily.  Right before the holidays they had five cleans everyday they were trying to fill, so if any of you are planning to take a vacation to beautiful Winter Park, CO they would love your help!
- Bill & Elaine Prophet have seen an increase in their MCS contract comparable to last year!  Also, Hank & Kevin were here from their office training this week.  We are very excited to have them as part of the family!
We were also very excited to meet John Peer this week from Steve & Karen Rostons office.  John is the general manager for the Rostons.  They will be focusing on growing their handyman core this year!
- Gary Tresner got his website up http://www.spectrumdanecounty.com/ this last week.  If you are still in need of completing your website it is not too late!  Please contact me if you need a reminder of what you need to send to me.
- Tom & Debbie Vinopal are one of our newest franchise offices and they are doing great!  They have found some great contacts in their area, provided organizational/relocation services for a few of the seniors in their area, completed handyman projects and cleanings in their area.  They are doing their marketing and advertising as asked and seeing results.  We couldn't ask for anything more! We look forward to seeing them develop and grow in the coming months.  Their grand opening is planned for February 1st!
- Jamie Banks has a roof project that will have a 41% profit margin!
- Last week Geoffry Fry & Jim Jayjock, one of our new offices~ SHS of South Orange County, had an on site meeting with Lender Processing Services (LPS Field Services).  I was able to attend the meeting with them and it went really good.  We meet with the Vice President and Vendor Network Manager for California.  They really enjoyed learning more about our company and look forward to building a relationship with us.
- Frank & Melissa Beck have had some great handyman work come their way!  They just had a great sales week and are very busy.
- John Roeske has added some great new staff to his team!  He is really focusing on growing the handyman, yard care and cleaning cores.  John has been very diligent in finding the right staff, providing them with training and it finally has paid off.  He is focusing on being an owner: marketing, delegating and training.  We like where this is headed!
- Daryl Ferguson is focusing on providing commercial cleaning in his local area and is providing a referral incentive for his current clients to recommend him.  He has had past clients call him for more handyman work and is gaining new clients from networking, SEO services and referrals.

If there is a WIN you would like to share with the group please call me!  I would love to pass it onto the other franchise owners and hear about your experiences.

This week at SHS...

Hello Spectrum Family!

Happy 2012!!!

This week at the home office we have been getting back on schedule after the holidays.  We hope you all had time to relax, re-charge your batteries and spend quality time with your family.

Here are a few things that are going on at the home office:
- We have promoted Irene, from our pilot office, to develop the cleaning core nationally.  She will be in charge of development, training and questions regarding the cleaning department.  I will be sending out a bit about her experience at a later date.  The new position will be great for her based on her experience of 20+ years.
Irene will be over anything that has to do with cleaning, so if you have any questions regarding cleaning please contact her here at the corporate office 801-432-8182.  She will be picking up the development on the training manuals, PowerPoint presentations and cleaning video.
- February 3, 2011: Tony will be starting his boot camp!
- HandiRamp: Right before the Christmas holiday we finalized the pricing structure for both companies.  I have invited them to attend our Support Conference Call January 19th @ 1:00pm MST, but I have not received a confirmation at this point.  The conference call will be an "in-service" to share with you the product line that is available, negotiated pricing and contact information for Handi-Ramp  You are welcome to invite your staff members to attend this conference call for up selling purposes.
- Franchise Growth System: We have developed a group of franchisees to be on the board meeting with Bill Kritzik to assist with the development of the Franchise Growth System.  The group will be meeting in two weeks (invites will be sent next week) to discuss the financial reports section of the system.  3PointData completed testing this week making sure everything was syncing properly.  They are hopeful to have all of the franchise financial reports rolled out by the end of January.  They will be rolling out 5 franchise's at a time, so the process is smooth and accurate.
- I have started working on developing relationships with insurance companies nationally.  I am hoping to have something positive to report soon!
- There are a few franchise owners who still do NOT have a website.  If you are one of them, please send me your information and if you need assistance please contact me.
- As a reminder, we rolled out the new text message program.  If you are interested in participating please see our earlier post and contact Lydia Nagel lnagel@spectrumhomeservices.com

Well, that is all for now... watch for more updates coming soon!
