Update from Elisha

Hello everyone,

It has been a few weeks since I have written and I apologize for the down time.  There has been a lot going on personally (all good!) and I have been out in the field training and supporting franchisee's for the last week and a half.  This week I am out in the field helping Steve Roubik (SHS of Central TN), so I am still out of the office.  If you need to reach me please contact me on my cell phone or by email.
I hope everyone is staying busy with the new grass cut season upon us and Spring!  This is a great time of the year.  I appreciate everyone's efforts and hard work.  Remember I am here to assist if you need anything...

Have a great week!

Cleaning Training Webinar

Thank you to Irene for presenting and training on cleaning products, employee route books and scheduling.  We will hold this training again in the future if you were unable to attend.

One of the items mentioned was that we were testing a product & service from Brady Industries due to the cost difference comparable to Eco-Labs.  We will share our results in the future once our testing is completed.

Thank you again to Irene and for all those who attended!

Count The Wins...

I love sharing wins with the group, so please contact me if there is something you would like to have posted!

- Kim Abelman:
BACK UP CARE ADVANTAGE (BUCA), Kim Abelman is now on the highest tier of their "Priority Partnership" as a Preferred Agency, with a fill/staff rate of 90.95%.  Over a 6 month period, (1st half of 2011), Out of 221 Reservations offered, they staffed 201 cases resulting in 1.531 total hours staffed. Presidents day, 2012, is one of their busiest days: they staffed 59 hrs in one day (6 cases). Also, they wrote and requested a birthday card for our longest, oldest client, Velma, from President Obama and it arrived!!  They will be presenting it to Velma on her 96th birthday on March 10.  Kim's own longest caregiver wrote to me: "Thank you and Spectrum for the privilege of having been with both Velma and Barbara (her daughter) for these past 6 years.".
Amazing... Kim you are a steady example in the franchise and in your community.  Keep up all the great work!

-John Roeske:
Closed out a project for $1,000 which included a clean out, carpet cleaning and smoke detectors.

-Frank & Melissa Beck:
They have $6,200 in pending work to be approved.  They were approved for a project for $2,625 on Saturday!

-John & Trudy O'Toole:
They installed 5 grab bars and a wheelchair ramp on Friday.  They have $17,338 worth of approved work for the month of March as of March 2nd!

-Steve Roubik:
Just had a $20,000 week...  WOW

-Bill Kritzik:
Bill had quite a job on his hands... $11,000 for an eviction of a hoarders house.  Required 30 men on site.  He received this project from a local broker.  To complete the job he used his staff and other property preservation companies.

-Daryl Ferguson:
Secured a handyman project for a back and front porch, $3,900.

-Jerome Morales:
The handyman business is growing for Jerome and his team!  They have a lot of jobs pending including some bathroom remodels.  Great work Central Texas team!

Count The Wins!

Every step you take in the right direction is a major win. Baby steps, small steps, big steps, they're all wins. And they should produce a personal payoff for yourself.
- Closed a Deal? Count the win.
- Ate fruit for breakfast instead of soda? Count the win.
- Passed a certification? Count the win.
- Talked to 20 new people this week? Count the win.
- Reached your weekly goal? Count the win.
- Paid off a debt? Count the win.
In order to count the wins you must recognize the wins. This skill is like following a trail of breadcrumbs. Some people are only willing to look at loaves of bread as a win, others can sniff out the most microscopic crumb and keep on the scent through any adversity. The latter always seem to know which direction to turn. They count every win, no matter how small, as proof their intention is working. As you take action toward your destination, every single step is a win, and should be celebrated as such!

Have a great week everyone!

Bad breath kills...

Let me tell you about my encounter with Dan the Personal Trainer who had it all together?

When I left home that morning, I told Jen (my wife) how excited I was to start getting into shape. I KNEW I'd be hiring a PT  (personal trainer) that day.

His gym was immaculate, he was professional, and he worked his system perfectly.

He matched & mirrored, helped me see and feel a vision & identified the gaps.

He sold programs - blocks of 9 weeks with a specific result, a sexy title, and a payment plan.
He also fit into my price range.  THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SLAM DUNK.

He was selling exactly what I wanted. Right when I
needed it. In exactly the way I like to be sold.

BUT INSTEAD OF BUYING I RAN LIKE CRAZY, AND NEVER WENT BACK.

I got home, and Jen my wife asked how it
was... I told her I couldn't go through with it.
Something happened that meant I never wanted to
see that trainer - EVER AGAIN.

IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DOING SIT-UPS...

I was working hard, pulling my out-of-shape body up in crunches.

He was doing his job: Getting in my face and pushing me hard.

Telling me not to quit.  "Just 5 more" "C'mon, Kameron. You can do it"

And that was the problem. I'm working my butt off, and just as I get to the top of the sit-up to gasp
for air...

... he's shouting in my face with hideous BAD BREATH.

And I had no choice but to breathe it in, and prepare for my next sit-up.

All the excitement about my new body and my new gym evaporated, and all I could think about was
"I'm not signing up for 9 weeks of having to breathe this guy's halitosis".

30 minutes of rancid bad breath is more than anyone should have to endure.

As soon as the workout was over, I thanked him for his time, said I'd think about it, and ran like crazy.

(No one ever tells you to your face the real reason they don't buy).

HERE'S THE BIG LESSON FOR YOU:

There's no point investing thousands in coach training, > if you won't invest 50 cents in a tic tac.

Kameron

P.S.  people won't tell you the REAL reason they say no. Not to your face, anyway.

If you've had a run of people say 'no' lately, I can guarantee that it's not them. It's something you're doing (or not doing) that's making them run.

And you need to fix it fast, or the dry spell will continue.
This can be in your sales approach, your marketing, your delivery, appearance.

Support Conference Call

Last Thursday on our Support Conference Call we had Don from Vertical Search Works (VSW) present a demo.  What services does VSW provide?
Advertising company who places ads on Better Homes & Gardens, DIY Network, HGTV... They place the advertisement where it is relative to our services, based on content in the article and within cities specified.  This is a pay-per-a-click campaign.  $1.00 for each click, no contract and no start up cost.  You control how much you want to spend on your advertising per a month.  You have the ability to shut it off, turn it on and review your analytics at a click of a button.
There are a lot advertising companies that approach me, but I believed this one was relative.  It's a good opportunity, great placement based on our services, shows crediability and it's affordable.  When pricing other pay-per-a-click campaign they were in the $5-$8 range (Google).  See the links below for example ads:

ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS

ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS
In a study done at Harvard University more than 40 years ago, researchers polled the graduating class of 1953 to find out how many students actually had clearly written specific goals and a plan for achieving them.  This being a class of highly intelligent people at one of the world's most renowned universities, you'd expect the answer to be most of them, right?
Not even close.  In fact, only 3 percent of the class had taken the time to write down their goals.
Now here comes the really interesting part.  Some 20 years later, researchers polled this same group of graduates to see how they had fared in life.  It turned out that the 3 percent who had written down their goals had accumulated more wealth than the other 97 percent of their class combined!  Researchers reported that these people also seemed healthier and happier than their classmates.
I was in college when I first heard about this study, and I wondered if achieving your goals could really be that easy.  "Put in writing what you want and focus on it daily"?  Well, it may not be easy, but over the years I definitely have seen it work.

Busy Time Quickly Approaching

For most of the franchisees, this is the time of the year that things really start picking up. For this reason, we are just writing a few reminders.

Control Your Labor

Whether you are using contractors or employees, teach them how your money works. Contractors don't get paid until you get paid. Employees should be paid by the job in most any capacity. Hourly rate rarely works as nobody is motivated by an hourly rate.

Budget Everything

As you start marketing, you'll notice that the costs can go through the roof. Test and measure all your marketing and find out where your leads are coming from.  Put a budget down as a percentage and stick to it.

Once you live within a budget, you'll be more aware of where you are spending your money. Some of the places it goes quickly are lunches, marketing, uncontrolled labor, etc.

Customer Service Matters

Remember in this type of economy, customer service matters more than ever. Your competition is marketing to your clients. Don't allow them to steal your clients.

Insurance change per MFS Companies

Most of you may know, but the Mortgage Field Service companies across the industry will be requiring all property preservation and REO service providers to be insured by one of their preferred insurance companies.  This needs be completed within one year of their notice.  I have reached out to 3 of the insurance companies to start the process and do some of the leg work for you.  Price is important; however, we need to make sure you will be fully covered and not at risk.
In the next week or two I will be sending out more information letting you know my findings.

Have a great weekend!

Business Coaching~ 1/24/12

Thank you to all those who were on the Business Coaching Call today!  We appreciate your participation and have seen an increase in revenue with those who have taken the time to focus and attend to these calls.

Today on our call we talked about "planting seeds" and going back to the basics.  Just like farmers planting crops we need to plan and then deliver within a exact period of time reap the rewards.  What can you do now to prepare for the upcoming Spring?
- Call all of your current & past clients one month before the Spring time season and get them on your preferred customer list.  On this call you should be securing a mowing season contract and scheduling them for a yard clean-up.
- Email Campaign to those same clients prior to your phone call reminding them they need to get on your waiting list now as preferred client before you are booked for the season.
- Send a card to those business to business contacts from SendOutCards.com for one of the off holidays: Valentine's Day, St. Patricks Day...
- Pick at least one day a week (more if you are not busy) and go to your networking meetings, office visits and one on one meetings with other business owners that may be able to refer business to you and you can refer business to them.  Who doesn't like to go to breakfast or coffee???  It's a great way to build friendships and business contacts.  Remember, you have at least one thing in common- you are business owners.

These are just a few ideas, can you come up with more?

Kameron talked about going back to basics and covered the following topics:

What is the vision
Who is in charge
Weekly goals
Look at BK as an option
Evaluate all work Cash vs. busy
Break even
Daily KPI
Calendar & Follow Up
Creating Raving Fans
Organization
Delegation
Planning
Delivery
Supply
Easy to Buy
Quality Service

Have a great week everyone!  As a reminder, our next Business Coaching call is Tuesday, February 13th at 1:00pm MST.

Handi Ramp Update

The Handi-Ramp Conference call yesterday went really well.  We are excited to develop this national opportunity!  We are planning on developing some dual marketing and advertising, but in the meantime we encourage you to offer these services to your clients.
Also Jim Shaw from Handi-Ramp has not sent me his PowerPoint from the call, but once I receive it I will send it out to the group.

IF SUCCESS WERE EASY, EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT!

Being in jail is an experience I will never forget. I was 16 years old. My Mom and I had just escaped from communist Czechoslovakia by driving through Hungary to Yugoslavia, and having left our car up in the Alps and climbing into Austria. We had gone through the mountains with little more than a hidden US $100 bill and the clothes on our backs. We had military helicopters circling above our heads for a while. We were scared. I was just a typical teenager with big hair, a big mouth, and tiny self-esteem. I certainly wasn't quite prepared to be escaping a country. It seemed that we are never quite prepared with the big steps we need to take in our lives. My mother almost slipped off a cliff at one point and she could have lost her life if she hadn't managed to regain her balance.
When we finally made it to Austria, we were exhausted, excited, confused, and a whole lot of other things. By a chain of coincidences, we ended up at the police station where we went through the questioning and fingerprinting process. We figured that we would soon be on our way to the refugee camp near Vienna and, soon after that, on our way to Canada or some other blessed free country that would take us. Yoohoo. Freedom found!
Wrong. It was getting late at night and we needed a place to sleep. The police officers called a few hotels and then they said they will take us to The Town Jail for the night. At first, I thought it had been just an interesting hotel name.
It wasn't. At this jail, a scary woman looking like the sidekick from Frankenstein performed a body search and took away our belts and our shoe laces. Then we were taken to the cell, our new "home".
Two bunk beds. A hole in the ground for a bathroom. A three-foot stack of hard core pornography. A water faucet that would only turn on from the outside. A door with no door handle. In short, not a place to invite someone on a romantic date.
The the jail guard left and the big steel door behind us got shut. The next thing I remember is the loud silence and reality started to sink in. "This is freedom? We didn't sign up for this!"
Then things got worse. We got forgotten. We were supposed to only stay for one night but nobody but us seemed to know that. I was starting to understand how zoo animals must feel and I wondered if learning some tricks might increase our chances of being remembered.
When we finally got released, paradise still wasn't found. We stayed in a refugee camp for five months. Anyone employed in a company going through downsizing can relate to the uncertainty of not knowing if there is a job to be had at the end of the next day. In the camp, people didn't even know if they had a country to live in and the stresses were enormous. Even coming to Canada was tough. We didn't know the language or the culture. Things seemed to get tougher and tougher, for a long time, before they got better. If we had an option of going back home, we would have likely done so. However, this inability to turn back and give up made us persevere and find a life we couldn't have had back there.
Have YOU ever gotten yourself into a situation where you believed you would improve your lot in life, only to find a number of things that you didn't "sign up for"? Maybe you started a business or got a job that didn't start out well. Maybe you were married and things got tough. Often, in life, things get uglier before they get better. If you want something, keep going, don't turn back just because things aren't easy in the moment. Based on what I have seen, if success were easy, everyone would be doing it. If you want a result badly enough, you will get it but you must be willing to wait and do what is necessary. Handle the challenges of the moment in creative ways, but never turn back to give up on what you want!

Focusing on the WINS...

We haven't shared WINS for a few weeks, so I thought it would be great to reflect on some good things that are happening nationally:

- Chris Spahr has had a few in-services with senior service providers in his area in the last few weeks.  At the end of December he went to UMC hospital and did an in-service for about 25 people.  He has completed about 2 others since then.  Chris is providing all the Spectrum of services, but his focus is to grow his Senior Services core this year!  We are happy to hear that...
- Phill and Sarah Martin are doing great work in their local community.  They have grown their handyman and cleaning departments steadily.  Right before the holidays they had five cleans everyday they were trying to fill, so if any of you are planning to take a vacation to beautiful Winter Park, CO they would love your help!
- Bill & Elaine Prophet have seen an increase in their MCS contract comparable to last year!  Also, Hank & Kevin were here from their office training this week.  We are very excited to have them as part of the family!
We were also very excited to meet John Peer this week from Steve & Karen Rostons office.  John is the general manager for the Rostons.  They will be focusing on growing their handyman core this year!
- Gary Tresner got his website up http://www.spectrumdanecounty.com/ this last week.  If you are still in need of completing your website it is not too late!  Please contact me if you need a reminder of what you need to send to me.
- Tom & Debbie Vinopal are one of our newest franchise offices and they are doing great!  They have found some great contacts in their area, provided organizational/relocation services for a few of the seniors in their area, completed handyman projects and cleanings in their area.  They are doing their marketing and advertising as asked and seeing results.  We couldn't ask for anything more! We look forward to seeing them develop and grow in the coming months.  Their grand opening is planned for February 1st!
- Jamie Banks has a roof project that will have a 41% profit margin!
- Last week Geoffry Fry & Jim Jayjock, one of our new offices~ SHS of South Orange County, had an on site meeting with Lender Processing Services (LPS Field Services).  I was able to attend the meeting with them and it went really good.  We meet with the Vice President and Vendor Network Manager for California.  They really enjoyed learning more about our company and look forward to building a relationship with us.
- Frank & Melissa Beck have had some great handyman work come their way!  They just had a great sales week and are very busy.
- John Roeske has added some great new staff to his team!  He is really focusing on growing the handyman, yard care and cleaning cores.  John has been very diligent in finding the right staff, providing them with training and it finally has paid off.  He is focusing on being an owner: marketing, delegating and training.  We like where this is headed!
- Daryl Ferguson is focusing on providing commercial cleaning in his local area and is providing a referral incentive for his current clients to recommend him.  He has had past clients call him for more handyman work and is gaining new clients from networking, SEO services and referrals.

If there is a WIN you would like to share with the group please call me!  I would love to pass it onto the other franchise owners and hear about your experiences.

This week at SHS...

Hello Spectrum Family!

Happy 2012!!!

This week at the home office we have been getting back on schedule after the holidays.  We hope you all had time to relax, re-charge your batteries and spend quality time with your family.

Here are a few things that are going on at the home office:
- We have promoted Irene, from our pilot office, to develop the cleaning core nationally.  She will be in charge of development, training and questions regarding the cleaning department.  I will be sending out a bit about her experience at a later date.  The new position will be great for her based on her experience of 20+ years.
Irene will be over anything that has to do with cleaning, so if you have any questions regarding cleaning please contact her here at the corporate office 801-432-8182.  She will be picking up the development on the training manuals, PowerPoint presentations and cleaning video.
- February 3, 2011: Tony will be starting his boot camp!
- HandiRamp: Right before the Christmas holiday we finalized the pricing structure for both companies.  I have invited them to attend our Support Conference Call January 19th @ 1:00pm MST, but I have not received a confirmation at this point.  The conference call will be an "in-service" to share with you the product line that is available, negotiated pricing and contact information for Handi-Ramp  You are welcome to invite your staff members to attend this conference call for up selling purposes.
- Franchise Growth System: We have developed a group of franchisees to be on the board meeting with Bill Kritzik to assist with the development of the Franchise Growth System.  The group will be meeting in two weeks (invites will be sent next week) to discuss the financial reports section of the system.  3PointData completed testing this week making sure everything was syncing properly.  They are hopeful to have all of the franchise financial reports rolled out by the end of January.  They will be rolling out 5 franchise's at a time, so the process is smooth and accurate.
- I have started working on developing relationships with insurance companies nationally.  I am hoping to have something positive to report soon!
- There are a few franchise owners who still do NOT have a website.  If you are one of them, please send me your information and if you need assistance please contact me.
- As a reminder, we rolled out the new text message program.  If you are interested in participating please see our earlier post and contact Lydia Nagel lnagel@spectrumhomeservices.com

Well, that is all for now... watch for more updates coming soon!
